It's an MZ racing driver's birthday
This month we would like to honor Alan Shepherd, who would have turned 85 on September 28th.
As a driver, he drove for MZ between 1961 and 1964. He celebrated his greatest successes in 1962 and 1964. In western countries he often had to compete without his team around Walter Kaaden, as MZ's GDR employees often did not get an entry visa for NATO countries.
Wildeck Castle is exhibiting his original driver's helmet in his honor, which he wore during the race at the Daytona International Speedway in 1964.
The MZ RE125, which he regularly drove in races, is also in the museum.
Thanks go to the lender Norbert Kaaden, who has made the helmet available to us on permanent loan since 2004.
